Love the creativity behind the Instagram feeds of these two brothers from Singapore, who were also featured as Singapore’s Instagrammers of the year in 2014!
Read on for their interview with us on all things Instagram and photography 🙂
Where are you located?
In one sentence, describe your motivation in life:
Yafiq’s motivation in life is to continuously making people happy. He dislikes seeing lonely and sad people as he always believes in spreading the love. Especially to his family.
Yais has always been a family person. He may not always show his concern to them but deep inside he is. Family has always been his greatest motivation in life. Without them, he would not be where he is now. And plus, he is happy when his family is happy too!
Tell us the story of how you got started with your photography, Instagram and how you built your Insta followings:
For Yafiq, he was told by his cousin to download the app and just use it for fun. Photography is just a click from the camera phone. He started to get into it when his photography started to be recognised. It kept him going. And one fine day, @instagram featured his account for a local lens series.
On top of that, he got onto Instagram’s suggested user list 2 weeks later.
Yais was deeply influenced by Yafiq. He only started using Instagram when it became available on Android and started using Instagram to showcase more of his Outfit Of The Day (you guys can feel free to scroll down the feed if you really want to haha!).
Then, he tagged along with Yafiq for Instameets and started to change his photography style and take more styled photos. Yais started to gain more followers when he got onto Instagram’s suggested user list. About a month after, his photo was featured as one of Instagram’s Weekly Hashtag Project images (it’s the one with the greenery!).
What is one of your favourite parts of being an Instagrammer?
We definitely have to say it is being able to meet new people and also the thought that we can inspire others. It has become like a meaningful hobby for us.
What has been the highlight or ‘I can’t believe this!’ moment so far on your creative journey?
Yafiq was invited by Qatar Airways to attend their newly launched airplane A350 XWB in Doha on a sponsored trip.
As for Yais, it was getting featured on Instagram’s Weekly Hashtag Project as mentioned above.
Does your faith affect your approach to your photography?
Yes. Indeed. Yafiq believes that everything he does links to what he believes. From the caption to the photos.
Yais agrees as well. And plus, photography is always fun. Put some faith in your photography and you will never go wrong.
What/where/who inspires you?
Everywhere. Anything. Nothing specific. Perhaps every single person we meet inspires us. Bad or good, we’re still learning.
How do you handle the inevitable creative block?
We are delightful to see new things! Every new thing inspires us to do more new things! So keep the creative juices coming!
What 2 pieces of advice, based on your own experience, would you give to a fellow photographer starting out? (or someone wanting to get more into Instagram photography or iPhone photography):
Learn from your surroundings. Follow people who post good stuff on Instagram (or anywhere). Be inspired and create your own things. Best of all, be yourself and be happy about what you’re doing. You will never go wrong. Most importantly, you take photos to satisfy yourself not others. If people like it, it’s a bonus!
Favourite Social Media or Marketing Platform?
We love Snapchat. But it’s too personal haha so Instagram it is!
If you could travel to one place anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?
We wanna go for Hajj! Like now!
Where would you love to see your work in 5 years time?
Instagram is already a good platform to expose our work. Our photos have been exhibited before and what we would love to see in 5 years time? Our work printed on billboards all over the world 🙂
