A while ago I started following the Wandering Nomad on Instagram, and would constantly be eyeing each beautiful piece of jewellery and having a difficult time deciding which to purchase because I truly loved them all.
I must’ve talked about them a bit too much around my home because one day I received the stunning Trabzon necklace in the mail as a gift from my awesome husband – it’s now my favorite piece of jewelry, in fact, I’m wearing it right now! And I can’t wait to purchase another…and another..if I can ever decide which ones to get.
The lovely Filiz from Wandering Nomad has kindly given us an insight into her growing business and sources of inspiration!

In one sentence, describe your motivation in life:
My motivation in life is simply to make the most of each day. Really living life to the fullest, making the most of given opportunities whilst being thankful and humble to the Creator.
Tell us the story of how you got started with your business:
I feel l got steered, pushed, directed towards the business by fate. From my early years I have had an appreciation for beautiful things. I am very particular about the things I like, from fashion to jewelry, accessories, interiors and art. I found beauty in the silliest things. Things like store bought packaging/boxes would get me excited.
I had always played with the idea of starting the business, in particular importing the traditional Turkish jewelry for approximately five years!! Life got in the way, work, family and a lot of hesitation from my part. Before I took the deciding step to venture down the path of self employment I lost my job unexpectedly whilst on holiday! This was the nudge I needed to get me going, and I have to say I haven’t looked back.
What is one of your favourite products of your business and why?
I cant say that I have a particular favourite product. Before I decide to introduce any product into the business I always ask myself, do I love this myself, and would I buy this? So essentially all the products I sell are my favourites!
What has been the highlight or ‘I can’t believe this!’ moment so far on your entrepreneurial journey?
My biggest highlight or ‘I can’t believe this!’ moment would have to be when I realised that people do love my products and in such a short time the amount of orders I was receiving. I never expected so many people to appreciate the same things that I did (a little naive yes I know!)
How does your faith affect your approach to your business?
In everything I do whether it be my personal life or business life I always without fail put my hands in the Almighty. Obviously I know I need to work hard and it takes a lot of effort to be on top of it all whilst juggling a hundred of other things but essentially at the end of the day I feel if l am to succeed it will happen by the Grace of Allah s.w.t
What/where/who inspires you?
I get inspiration from many things. Most of all from the cultures and traditions of various countries. Namely the Moroccans, the Indians, the Turks etc.
How do you handle the inevitable creative block?
I constantly need to find new ways to present my items. Creative, trendy, attractive, appealing ways to style my pieces and that can be tricky at the best of times. I have a tendency to over think things which inevitably leads to the creative block. When this happens I AWLAYS tell myself to stop over thinking it and simplify. In my eyes simple is always good.
What 2 pieces of advice, based on your own experience, would you give to a fellow entrepreneur starting out?
Two bits of advice would have to be to put your trust in Allah s.w.t and follow your gut.
Favourite Social Media or Marketing Platform?
Instagram without a doubt!
If you could travel to one place anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?
There are many many many places I’d love to be right now, however Turkey would have to be at the top of my list hands down. As a Turk who has never been to Turkey is pretty pathetic. So Turkey here I come!
Where would you love to see your business in 5 years time?
In five years I would absolutely love to be massive! I’d love to be one of the biggest online stores (jewelry & accessories). Or I’d love to be a large distributor. Here’s to dreams!
